Rules vs. Freedom

2014
A tape and string mural created in collaboration with fellow artist Kadie DiCarlo.
Rules vs. Freedom was created by translating three definitions of "rules" and three definitions of "freedom" into tape and string lines (nouns, verbs, and adjectives, etc. are represented by horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines). "Rules" and "Freedom" began on opposing walls and were forced to intersect on the far wall, resulting in a seemingly-chaotic entanglement created by attempting to adhere to a strict system.
